Late last year, Ford Authority sniffed out a patent that Ford had filed for an electronic device holder. That handy feature made its way to the 2025 Ford Expedition, which represents a major redesign for the full-size SUV, integrated into its fully revamped interior. Today, we’re throwing the spotlight on this feature, which is a game changer for rear seat passengers.
Ford Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft, and his cohost “G” discuss the digital device holder in the video below, so head to around the 18-minute mark to check it out.
So, what exactly is the digital device holder? It’s a clamp-like component integrated into the back of the front seats’ headrests. It can be expanded to fit most smartphones and tablets, holding the device securely at eye level so rear-seat passengers can enjoy media, hands-free.
G, for his part, is particularly enamored with the feature – he thinks it’s one of the more useful aspects of the 2025 Ford Expedition, especially for owners with children. He says it practically solves the problem of siblings fighting over a device.
“They can’t sit there and yank it out of the other [kid’s hands], the headphones get lost… this is specifically to keep the peace in the backseat, and I like it,” he says.
In offering the digital device holder, Ford has also removed the need for a rear seat entertainment system, which tend to be costly and quickly become outdated.
The digital device holder isn’t the only neat feature packed into the 2025 Ford Expedition. We recently highlighted the SUV’s Flex Powered Console, which includes a hidden compartment and allows second-row passengers access to the cupholders and climate functions.
Other standout features about the 2025 Ford Expedition’s interior include a completely revamped cockpit with a new 24-inch display that serves as a large instrument cluster. This screen is paired with a 13.2-inch center screen for infotainment duties.
Other new features in the 2025 Expedition include the new split liftgate, which improves ease of access to the SUV’s rear, along with an all-new Tremor trim. It is also one of the few models in The Blue Oval’s lineup to retain the factory keyless entry keypad, and it features a revamped exterior color lineup that now includes new hues like Space Silver Metallic. There are also a plethora of packages available, ranging from aesthetic upgrades to mechanical goodies.
Production of the 2025 Expedition, which is handled at the Ford Kentucky Truck plant, is scheduled to kick off in early January 2025, as reported by Ford Authority. Pricing starts at $61,700, not including destination freight charges.

Big deal.
Nie little feature but “game changer”? Not hardly.
Build website says this feature isn’t available until Summer 2025. Does this mean early orders will not get this or will ford swap out when available?
