Chaz Mostert Stands Behind Supercars Ford Team WAU: Video

A pair of Supercars Ford Mustang GT racers swept the top two positions in Race 21 at Gold Coast and followed it up with top-five finishes in Race 22, but Chaz Mostert wasn’t among them. Mostert was mathematically eliminated from championship contention after a pair of less-than-stellar races in Surfer’s Paradise due to circumstance outside of his control, drawing online criticism aimed toward his team, Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU). Mostert put his foot down and expressed support for WAU despite the lackluster performance last weekend.

As a reminder, the No. 25 Supercars Mustang suffered a gear position sensor issue along with a refueling rig error, which relegated him to a 10th-place finish in Race 21 and 11th in Race 22. Criticism online prompted Mostert to post a video on X, getting after fans for tearing WAU to shreds.

“What a super tough weekend for me and the whole team. Not the results we wanted,” Mostert said. “We had such a fast car and to not get some surfboards, no doubt, we’re all gutted, and gutted for our fan base as well.”

Mostert congratulated Triple Eight Racing, calling out competitors Will Brown and Broc Feeney for their phenomenal performance throughout 2024. The two Chevy Camaro racers hold down the frontrunning positions in the title fight. Mostert then acknowledged the efforts of his own Supercars Ford team throughout the season, though it ultimately fell short.

“I’m a big believer that we win and we lose as a team,” he said. “The drivers in the car… we could easily make a mistake any day. And when we do make a mistake, we’re very rarely crucified by it. But when our team makes a mistake, fans out there generally try to sometimes go up above and beyond crucifying the team. I can’t be in the position I’m in to represent these awesome brands and get trophies throughout the years without an amazing team behind me, and I will always die by their side, win, lose, draw, no matter what it is.”

He added, “If you’re insulting my team, you’re insulting me, so have a think about it before you comment anything online because I take it personally to heart as well especially when you target WAU because without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
