Though demand for all-electric vehicles among retail consumers hasn’t quite grown at the rate most expected, commercial fleets are gravitating toward EVs in throes. In fact, The Blue Oval previously admitted that it’s having a hard time building enough Ford E-Transit vans to meet demand, and that EV van is also being sold in an increasing number of markets with the passage of time, too. That includes South America, where the Ford E-Transit has been on sale for just a few months, and yet, commercial customers continue to flock to that model in a big way.
The latest customer to purchase a host of Ford E-Transit vans in South America is Edenor, which is one of the largest distributors of electricity in Argentina. Edenor has purchased 20 Ford E-Transit models to add to its fleet, a move that it’s making not only in an effort to reduce fleet-wide emissions, but also, to cut costs. In fact, the company expects this transition to slash its maintenance and overall ownership costs while also cutting back on downtime thanks to less required maintenance.
“Expanding our fleet with electric vehicles not only reduces our environmental impact, but also promotes more responsible mobility practices. E-Transit allows us to be more sustainable and efficient, while offering a more comfortable and quiet driving experience for our technicians,” said Santiago Chiari, Deputy Manager of Vehicle Fleet Management at Edenor. “Our drivers value the silence of the electric motor, which reduces noise pollution. In addition, they highlight the driving dynamics and safety features such as autonomous braking and driving assistance.”
The Ford E-Transit launched in Argentina just this past March, and a month later, in Brazil. Despite the fact that the EV van is very much a new product in those countries, it wasted no time taking over the top spot on the sales charts, as the E-Transit quickly became the best-selling vehicle in the light EV commercial vehicle segment in Brazil and hasn’t looked back since.
