The Ford Capri nameplate was reborn recently not as the beloved fastback coupe that it once was, but rather, as an all-electric crossover with sporty intentions. The new Capri EV has since garnered praise from critics as well as a perfect five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, but unfortunately for The Blue Oval, it hasn’t been quite as popular with new vehicle shoppers. In fact, weak demand recently prompted the automaker to scale back production of the Ford Capri and Ford Explorer EV at the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center in Germany, but now, the Capri is up for another notable accolade.
That accolade is Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY), which hands out awards in a number of segments and categories – this year, Urban Model, Compact SUV, Large Car, Large SUV, 4X4 and Pick-Up, Performance Cars, the Sandy Myhre Award, and Best Technology. The Ford Capri is up for Large SUV of the year, but it certainly has its fair share of competition in that regard.
In fact, the Capri is going up against 34 other models for this award – the Aion Hyper HT, BMW X3, BYD Seal U, BYD Sealion 7, Chevrolet Traverse, Chevrolet Equinox, Cupra Tavascan, DFSK Fengon 5, DFSK 600/E5, Dongfeng Mage, Ford Explorer EV, Geely Starray, GMC Acadia, Honda Prologue, Hongqi EHS7, Hyundai Santa Fe, Infiniti QX80, Kaiyi X7, Leapmotor C10, Mazda CX-70, Mazda CX-80, MG HS/EHS, Opel Grandland, Peugeot E-5008/5008, Polestar 3, Polestar 4, Porsche Macan, Renault Rafale, Seres 5, Skoda Kodiaq, Skywell BE11, Subaru Forester, Toyota Crown Signia, and Volvo EX90.
Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year is the only such panel comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists, and was created by New Zealand’s Sandy Myhre back in 2009, who now serves as the Honorary President. The WWCOTY awards are designed to give females a voice in the automotive world and utilizes the same sort of criteria as other accolades, meaning that they aren’t gender specific and are designed to choose the best vehicles overall in each individual category.

I would never buy this atrocity (and my wife neither). Specially when we both know the original Capri. This one, like the Mach-e, is nothing but a vulgar joke compared to the original model in whose name was highjacked. Not everybody like SUV´s or crossovers or is willing to buy one no matter what.
The womens’ car label is not going to help its weak sales.
