As is typically the case, there are plenty of brand new custom vehicle builds present at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas, along with a wide array of new parts and accessories for those same models. Many of these offerings come directly from manufacturers like Ford, though there are also plenty of goodies from third-party companies that operate in the automotive aftermarket, too. For those that prefer vintage vehicles over newer ones, this ultra-cool 1978 Ford F-250 Highboy from the folks at Fat Fender Garage is sure to please, we imagine.
This Ford F-250 Highboy is designed to look something like a “derelict desert truck,” according to Fat Fender Garage, and in that regard, the shop left the original exterior patina intact. Rolling on a set of black 305 series Method Wheels with Toyo A/T III tires, it has just enough of a modern appearance on the outside to complement those weathered panels, which is all the rage these days.
The same Southwestern theme continues inside the cabin with saddle brown distressed Italian leather, along with Pendleton Grand Canyon fabric covering the seat, door panels, and sun visors, Ultra Blue square weave carpet, Vintage Air A/C, custom burl walnut wood inserts, and various other nifty touches. Power comes from a 460 cubic-inch V8 that’s been rebuilt, coupled with a custom exhaust, an Edelbrock EFI system, along with a rebuilt NP205 transfer case and refreshed suspension with dual Dana 60 axles from a 2022 Super Duty, Fox shocks, and Battle Born Brakes.
Of course, this Ford F-250 Highboy is just one of many cool custom Blue Oval builds present at this year’s SEMA Show, including several from Ford itself – such as a low-slung 1969 F-100 powered by an upgraded, supercharged 5.2L V8. In the more modern realm, FoMoCo also debuted its new Ford Custom Garage packages for various models in the current lineup, the the Ford Bronco Wild Fund concept, the Ford F-150 ORV concept, and the F-150 FP700S concept package, to name just a few.
