There was a time, many years ago, when car-based pickups were all the rage, giving those that don’t haul or tow heavy loads a suitable option for their lighter-duty hauling needs. In today’s world, the Ford Maverick is essentially the closest we can get to that, but there are still plenty of folks that would prefer something, a bit, well, different. This is precisely why we’ve seen quite a few Blue Oval cars and crossovers converted into pickups over the years, and that now includes this very interesting Ford Focus that was recently spotted in East Garfield Park on the West side of Chicago.
These pictures were posted to Reddit recently by the person that spotted it sitting on the side of the street, and truthfully, it looks rather well done. Whoever put it together seemingly chopped off the rear portion of the roof and transformed the back seat and cargo area into a bed, and with the exception of the fact that the rear doors remain intact, it looks like it could have emerged from the assembly line just like this.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as if this Ford Focus pickup has been driven recently, as all four tires are a bit flat. Regardless, it’s a cool build that raises the ever-important question – what if Ford decided to keep the soon-to-be discontinued model around and added a more car-like pickup to its lineup? That isn’t likely to ever happen, but it’s a fun idea, if nothing else.
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Blue Oval model transformed into a pickup – not by a long shot. A few years ago, we featured a very unusual Ford Escape pickup conversion with loads of custom details, in fact, and just last month, we also spotted a 1994 Ford Taurus SHO pickup that’s been around for some time now.
