Ford Kuga Among UK’s Best Selling Vehicles Of October 2024

The Ford Kuga – a rebadged version of the Ford Escape that’s sold in Europe and other markets – has long been a top-seller in the United Kingdom, specifically, while the plug-in hybrid variant routinely ranks near or at the top of the PHEV sales charts, too. A recent refresh catapulted the Ford Kuga up the UK sales charts in September, however, as it managed to crack the top 10 after ranking ninth among all new vehicles sold in that country. Now that the month of October is in the rear-view, we’re learning that this was also the case last month, too.

According to new data from The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited (SMMT), the Ford Kuga once again improved its ranking on the UK sales charts by moving up to sixth place with 2,428 sales – placing it behind only the Kia Sportage, Ford Puma, Mini Cooper, Volvo XC40, and Volkswagen Tiguan, as well as ahead of the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Qashqai, MG HS, and Peugeot 208. The Kuga hasn’t quite managed to crack the top 10 in terms of year-to-date sales in the UK, however, where the Puma remains atop the charts for now – though the Kia Sportage is gaining ground on that crossover. As for the overall UK new vehicle market, sales fell by six percent year-over-year to 144,288 units, but EV sales actually rose by 24.5 percent, finishing the month at 29,802 units.

“Massive manufacturer investment in model choice and market support is helping make the UK the second largest EV market in Europe,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “That transition, however, must not perversely slow down the reduction of carbon emissions from road transport. Fleet renewal across the market remains the quickest way to decarbonise, so diminishing overall uptake is not good news for the economy, for investment or for the environment. EVs already work for many people and businesses, but to shift the entire market at the pace demanded requires significant intervention on incentives, infrastructure and regulation.”

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. The Kia Sportage is cheaper than the Ford Puma. That is why it sells more.
