Ford Mustang Instrument Panel Recall Impacting Buyers Worldwide

Last montth, Ford Motor Company issued a recall affecting certain units of the 2024 Ford Mustang. The instrument clusters in afflicted units may not illuminate at startup or while driving, potentially preventing the vehicle from showing critical information like warning lights or vehicle speed. As FoMoCo continues to fix vehicles covered under the recall, Mustang buyers around the world are having to wait for their vehicles to be cleared before taking delivery, particularly in Australia.

Unsurprisingly, FoMoCo will not deliver the Ford Mustang to Australian buyers until the instrument cluster issues are fixed, but that leaves hundreds of buyers in the country without their pony cars. According to CarExpert, 750 units of the Mustang in Australia were affected by the recall. Of those, 240 units have been fixed and delivered to their buyers with another 130 currently in dealer stock without owners. That leaves 380 units of the Ford Mustang that have yet to be delivered to their buyers.

Those 380 examples of the Ford Mustang, which were built between May 10th and August 20th, 2024, are expected to be fixed during the first quarter of 2025. Deliveries will commence shortly thereafter. For its part, The Blue Oval is doing what it can to keep those models in pristine shape until they can be united with their buyers.

“Wherever possible, Ford will utilize enclosed storage facilities to store the vehicles awaiting delivery,” a Ford Australia spokesperson said in an interview with CarExpert. “Ford has a thorough preservation process for units in storage, including batteries being checked, and tires being rotated every 30 days.”

He added, “We understand this will frustrate and disappoint many customers, and apologize to this passionate and enthusiastic group. We will communicate to all affected customers directly, and communicate with dealers to keep them updated on progress.”

The fix is easy, thankfully. A simple software update, which must be performed by an authorized dealer or technician, will ensure that the instrument cluster software in the Ford Mustang operates as intended.
