The Mustang Mach-E competes in the mainstream electric vehicles (EV) segment, in which we currently include mainstream (non-luxury) BEVs including crossovers, hatchbacks, and sedans (but not sedans and large SUVs). As more EVs enter the market, there will enough similar vehicle types competing against each other to warrant a specific segment. At that time, we are combining mainstream EVs into on space, while excluding pickup trucks. Beyond the mainstream EV segment being discussed here, the remaining EV segment is the premium EV market that contains models from Tesla, Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lucid, Cadillac, Jaguar, Genesis, Polestar, and Fisker. Accordingly, we are not including Tesla models in the mainstream EVs sales analysis, since they are premium/luxury models.
Combined sales of the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 decreased nine percent to 133,000 deliveries.

It’s also worth noting that Hyundai and Kia offer EV models which include variants with an internal combustion engine (ICE) and/or hybrid (HEV) and/or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. That includes the Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Ioniq (without a number), along with the Kia Niro. Consequently these models do not offer a direct comparison to the Mustang Mach-E. As a result, these particular Hyundai and Kia models are not included in our analysis. A related Hyundai model, the similarly named Ioniq 5, is all-electric, replacing the original Ioniq. While the Ioniq 5 is a crossover, the similarly named Ioniq 6 is an all-electric sedan.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford Mustang Mach-E sales remained in the lead in the growing mainstream electric utility vehicle space in spite of increased competition. The Hyundai Motor Group fields four EV models here, as does crosstown rival Chevy, though the Chevy Bolt duo has been discontinued, with a replacement on target for the 2026 model year.
Mustang Mach-E production decreased in July but increased in August, and its sales performance during Q3 continues to show that it can hold its own in the space.

The new Chevy Equinox EV is catching up and may pass the Mustang Mach-E next year. And soon the Cadillac Optiq will be added to this list. Coincidentally, these three are all assembled in Mexico. They are all American since Mexico is in North America together with the U.S.
