Back in September, the Ford Ranger was named as one of five pickups that made the cut as semi-finalists for the truck portion of the 2025 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards – joining the the GMC Sierra EV, Ram 1500, Rivian R1T, and Toyota Tacoma. Now, the NACTOY jury has whittled that list down to three finalists, and the Ford Ranger has made the final cut before the 2025 North American Truck of the Year winner is revealed.
The Ford Ranger is officially a finalist for 2025 NACTOY, and is vying against the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tacoma for this prestigious prize. Each year, the NACTOY awards recognize the best new vehicles on the market, based on a variety of factors including innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction, and value. To determine the winners, an independent jury of 50 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada will evaluate each model and provide their own feedback on those areas. The winners of each of those categories will be announced at the Detroit Auto Show on January 10th, 2025.
“The competition for these awards will be fierce this year,” said NACTOY President Jeff Gilbert, who is also the automotive reporter for WWJ Radio in Detroit. “We have a well-balanced crop of EVs, hybrids and gasoline-powered vehicles. It will be hard to narrow each category down to just one winner – they’re all great choices.”
If the Ford Ranger manages to pull out a victory here, it will join a host of Blue Oval pickups that have done precisely the same over the past few years. That list includes the Ford F-150, which won NACTOY honors in 2021 and was followed by the Ford Maverick in 2022, the Ford F-150 Lightning in 2023, and the Ford Super Duty in 2024 – meaning that if the Ford Ranger secures this hardware for 2025, it would mark the fifth consecutive year The Blue Oval has brought home NACTOY honors.
