Ford Tourneo Courier Gets Three Star Euro NCAP Rating

Ford Motor Company has earned a number of top ratings from Euro NCAP – a European voluntary car safety performance assessment program – in recent years, including a perfect five-star rating for more than one model. The all-new Ford Tourneo Courier just debuted for that same market back in May 2023, with production beginning roughly a year ago at the Ford Otosan Craiova Assembly plant in Romania, so it was time for that redesigned van to be subjected to the same sort of testing – though it didn’t quite fare as well as some of its Blue Oval lineup mates.

Rather, Euro NCAP assigned the Ford Tourneo Courier a three-star rating, with scores of 62 percent for adult occupants, 80 percent for child occupants, 81 percent for vulnerable road users, and 54 percent for safety assist. There were a few areas of concern discovered during this process, including vulnerabilities in frontal impact testing – particularly, the head area of rear seat passengers. “In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the rear passenger’s head was rated as poor, based on dummy readings of deceleration, and the car scored no points for this test,” the agency noted.

In terms of road users, Euro NCAP noted that “The system’s response both to pedestrians was adequate, but the system does not react to pedestrians to the rear of the car. The system’s performance in tests of its reaction to cyclists was good, but there is no protection against ‘dooring’, where a door is suddenly opened in the path of a cyclist approaching from behind.” It added that “Overall, the performance of the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system was marginal in tests of its reaction to other vehicles, with no reaction to vehicles crossing the car’s path.”

These results aren’t necessarily bad, but do come as a slight surprise given the stellar five-star ratings many other new Blue Oval models in Europe have received in recent months. That list includes the Ford Tourneo Connect, the Ford Transit Courier, and the Ford Explorer EV, while the Transit Connect was also awarded a Euro NCAP Platinum Award, too.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
