Ford Transit Connect Sales Vanish After Inventory Dries Up

Back in March 2023, The Blue Oval announced that the Ford Transit Connect had been officially canceled for the North American market, noting that it would be removed from that lineup following the conclusion of the 2023 model year. That was indeed the case, as the automaker opted not to develop a next-generation version of the small van amid declining sales in the U.S., though the Transit Connect does live on in Europe following a total redesign. Now, those in the U.S. looking for a new Ford Transit Connect to purchase will likely have a hard time finding one, it seems

A side view of the Ford Transit Connect.

According to FoMoCo’s September and October sales reports, the automaker sold a grand total of zero Ford Transit Connect models over the past two months, meaning that it has officially reached the end of the proverbial road – though a quick search on Autotrader does reveal that there are a few sitting on dealer lots, so one may be able to find a new example out there. In early September, the gross stock of Ford Transit Connect vans in the U.S. had already reached zero, as Ford Authority previously reported, however.

While it has since received a memorial of sorts after being discontinued in the U.S., the Ford Transit Connect lives on in Europe, though that model is little more than a rebadged Volkswagen Caddy, underpinned by that automaker’s MQB platform and utilizing the same drivetrain options and output, albeit renamed to fit within the Blue Oval family. Production of the Ford Transit Connect at the Valencia Assembly plant in Spain ended in late December, though the all-new European model debuted for the 2022 model year and is available in a variety of configurations and with several powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid variant.

However, the Ford Transit Connect may not be dead in the U.S. forever, or at least, it may return with a different name. As Ford Authority recently reported, a small van based on the Ford Maverick compact pickup is rumored to be in the works, and was reportedly even shown to dealers at a recent meeting, though further details remain scant at this time.
