Though demand for all-electric vehicles has largely cooled in the retail world, that isn’t the case with commercial fleets, who continue to find value in making the switch to EVs, thanks to their lower operating costs. A number of companies have purchased Ford E-Transit vans in recent months as a result of this revelation, a list that includes everything from utility companies like SoCalGas to beverage giant Pepsi. Now, we can add another entity to that list – Grupo Bimbo, which just purchased 30 Ford E-Transits vans for its European fleet.
Grupo Bimbo is the largest bakery company in the world, but it’s also set a goal to become a net carbon zero emissions company in 2050, in addition to establishing the intermediate goal of reducing the total of its direct and indirect emissions by 50 percent by 2030. Thus far, it already has 58 EV vans in operation in Spain, not including this addition of these 30 Ford E-Transit models, which will undoubtedly help it inch a bit closer to both of those goals.
“One of our core pillars as a company is to move forward to achieve a sustainable, efficient, and circular industry,” said Olga Martínez, director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Bimbo EMEA. “To do this, day by day we take concrete steps that allow us to improve our impact and reduce our carbon footprint. A good example is acquisitions like this, with key partners such as Ford Pro, which show us the way forward and bring us closer to our goals.”
Grupo Bimbo joins a host of other European companies that are purchasing Ford E-Transit vans to serve all kinds of purposes in many parts of the globe, in some cases, that go far beyond typical logistics operations – in fact, the EV van is also being used to help dock massive cargo ships in Denmark. The E-Transit just received a host of updates for the new model year in both the U.S. and Europe as well, all of which is part of Ford’s plan to continuously improve that model with each passing year.
