Joey Logano has plenty to boast about after the 2024 Cup Series season. Not only did he win four point-paying races plus the All-Star Race, he walked away as the 2024 Cup Series Champion. At the end-of-season banquet, Logano was given yet another trophy to add to his case, something as unique as the No. 22 NASCAR Ford Mustang Dark Horse itself: a gold-plated replica of the championship-winning race car.
The Goodyear Gold Car Award is presented by Goodyear, the sport’s exclusive tire manufacturer. The 24-karat gold-plated scale race car replica was first awarded to Darrell Waltrip in 1985 and has been given to every subsequent Cup Series champion.
“We like to think it’s what all the drivers are chasing at the start of the season,” Goodyear says of the Gold Car Award on its website. “Signifying a long road to success through unparalleled performance, every winner will tell you having one is priceless.”
Logano’s No. 22 NASCAR Ford is captured in exquisite gold detail, engraved with sponsor logos and his stylized No. 22 on the doors and roof. It will join both of Logano’s other golden race car replicas, which were given when he won his championships in 2018 and 2022.
It’s also the first time the Mustang Dark Horse has been made into a Gold Car Award. As a reminder, the model was launched as The Blue Oval’s all-new racer for the 2024 Cup Series season. Throughout the first three months of the season, The Blue Oval struggled with the Mustang Dark Horse, winless until Brad Keselowski put the No. 6 NASCAR Ford in Victory Lane at Darlington in May.
From there, the floodgates were opened. Ford Mustang Dark Horse racers went on to win 11 more times, 12 times total, with seven different drivers visiting Victory Lane. However, The Blue Oval came up short in the Manufacturers’ Championship, which went to crosstown rival Chevrolet, as reported by our sister publication GM Authority.
