Police-Style 1991 Ford Ranger SuperCab Up For Auction

First-generation Ford Ranger pickups are slowly becoming more and more collectible in recent times, and we’re starting to see quite a few nice, low-mile examples of those old compact haulers surfacing for sale at collector car auctions as a result. This makes sense given the fact that when it returned to the U.S. for the 2019 model year, the Ranger grew to a larger, mid-size offering. However, from time to time, we come across something a bit more, shall we say, unconventional – not the typical well-kept example of a first-gen model. This police-style 1991 Ford Ranger SuperCab certainly falls under that category, too.

This very interesting Ford Ranger is up for auction over at Bring a Trailer sporting a variety of modifications that make it look like it could very easily have once served as a law enforcement vehicle, though that was never the case. Rather, it’s more of a tribute with a black and white paint scheme coupled with a host of equipment including a roof-mounted light bar, police decals, a rear window strobe light, and chrome 17-inch wheels on the exterior.

Inside the cabin, that police theme continues with a Uniden scanner, a CB radio receiver, a PA system, a Whelen Dash King 2000 strobe light, and emergency light and siren controls, coupled with amenities such as gray vinyl seats, an Alpine CD stereo, air conditioning, auxiliary gauges, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.0L V6, which in this case has been treated to an aftermarket air-intake duct, a new manifold, and a dual exhaust system, with a a four-speed automatic transmission behind it.

Though this is the first law enforcement-focused first-generation Ford Ranger we’ve come across, we have seen quite a few other nice original examples from this same era recently. That list includes a 1989 Ford Ranger with just 38k original miles, as well as a 1991 with 65k miles.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. It is illegal as hell in most states to have the blue and red lights on the vehicle. I had to de-sheriff a friend’s Harley when he died and rewire the wigwags to straight up running lights as well as take off all the other stuff.
