Though most think of the Ford Crown Victoria as a large, comfortable, and super-spacious sedan, others prefer to modify that same machine and make it more competent at the track. This isn’t just true of one-off enthusiast builds either, as the legendary namesake of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, Arizona, famously commissioned Roush Performance to build a handful – around 18 – “Cobra Vic” versions of the Ford Crown Victoria that were used to teach students the fine art of driving fast years ago. Now, one of those rare models has surfaced for sale.
This 1999 Ford Crown Victoria “Cobra Vic” is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with a mere 22k miles on the clock, though it has changed hands a couple of times since its original mission. It received a bit of a redo in 2023 as the former owner repainted it black, at which time they also replaced the weatherstripping, exterior trim, headlights, taillights, and turn signal housings. The sedan still rolls on 17-inch Cobra R wheels, which hide a modified suspension with four-wheel disc brakes sporting slotted rotors, Eibach springs, Monroe shocks, and larger anti-roll bars.
Inside the cabin, one will find a Corbeau fixed-back racing seat, multi-point Simpson racing harnesses, a roll cage, cutoff switches, a Halon fire suppression system, and various other race car goodies, along with the original window nets. Power comes from the Ford 4.6L V8 sourced from the Mustang Cobra of this era, which in this case was replaced back in 2022 and is mated to a Tremec T45 five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok rear axle with 3.73 gears. Otherwise, there are loads of upgraded cooling components here, plus a trunk-mounted battery and 22-gallon fuel cell out back.
It’s been a little over a year since we last saw a Ford Crown Victoria Cobra Vic hit the auction block, which was a 2000 model that still sported its original decals on the outside. Regardless, given their low production total, we don’t imagine we’ll see another one up for grabs anytime soon, either.

Fuel cell? Roll cage? Racing seat? Give me a break.
This would be 1000x cooler if it didn’t look like a 17 year old got ahold of it. The one with the decals is even worse

That’s nice
