Supercars Ford Driver Cam Waters Already Eyeing 2025 Title

Even though Supercars Ford teams dominated Race 21 at Gold Coast on October 26th, 2024, the two title-contending Blue Oval were mathematically eliminated from the championship. One of those was Cam Waters, driver of the No. 6 Ford Mustang GT, who dominated Gold Coast from the pole and shot across the line first. It’s a miracle he was even considered a title threat at all after a less-than-ideal start to the racing season, and even though he’s no longer a factor in 2024, Waters is keeping his head up and already zeroing in on the 2025 Supercars Championship title.

Waters tailed points leader Will Brown, driver of the No. 87 Chevy Camaro, by 388 points after Round 3 in New Zealand earlier this year, according to a report from Supercars.com. He suffered a DNF at Albert Park and wrecked from the pole position at Taupō. However, Waters rebounded in the eight races since his nightmarish start, winning at Perth, Townsville, Symmons Plains, and Gold Coast.

In fact, no driver has won more than Waters this year, but a less-than-ideal Race 22 at Gold Coast did him in. He sustained front splitter damage while chasing the Camaro race cars of Will Brown and Broc Feeney and settled for a disappointing fourth-place result. But with one race left in the 2024 Supercars season, Waters isn’t letting his championship woes keep him down. In fact, in the closing laps at Gold Coast, he was already picturing his 2025 campaign.

“We’re pretty well not racing for a championship obviously now, I think we could get to third if [fellow Supercars Ford driver] Chaz [Mostert] had a few more dramas,” said Waters. “We want to win races and get poles for sure, but it’s also about learning for next year and making sure we’re good for next year at all different tracks.

He added, “Even today in that race, we tried things with the car to try and learn for next year. Eyes are forward.”
