Twin-Turbo Ford F-150 V8 Drag Races 860 HP Audi RS 3: Video

Hoonigan puts performance vehicles to the test in straight-line battles on the dragstrip, documenting the results in its This vs That series online. It pitted a pair of Blue Oval pickups against one another – a modified Ford F-150 Raptor and a kitted-out Ford Ranger Edge – earlier this month. This time, the crew took a 2020 Ford F-150 with a Coyote engine under the hood and threw it on track alongside an Audi RS 3 to find out which one reigns supreme.

The Ford F-150 belongs to Josh of Pickle Performance. Its 5.0L Coyote V8 is twin-turbocharged and makes around 1100 horsepower, according to Josh. The only downside is the pickup’s gross weight – it tips the scales at 5,000 pounds, potentially putting it at a disadvantage. The Audi RS 3, on the other hand, packs 860 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.5L I6 engine, but it only weighs 3,600 pounds.

The first round – a 1,000-foot sprint – starts, and the Ford F-150 gets right to work. It rears back on its haunches and ditches the Audi RS without breaking a sweat, breaking across the line first. When the second round kicks off, though, the Audi RS 3 finds its footing and loses the F-150 straightaway, although the crew argues that the sedan unfairly jumped off the line.`

Since it’s a competition of the best two-of-three, the Ford F-150 and the Audi RS 3 are neck-and-neck heading into the third and final round. Unfortunately, things don’t quite fall in the pickup’s favor, and the Audi shoots across the finish line well shut of the F-150 to win the competition, and bragging rights.

But it might not be all bad news for the Ford F-150. Josh won what was arguably the only fair race of the three. During the second race, the Audi jumped the start, and during the third, they both bogged out, so it may not have been a proper competition. Whatever the case, while it didn’t win, the Coyote engine in that F-150 certainly made some noise.
