UAW Supervisor Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault At Ford Plant

According to a press release from the prosecutor’s office in Macomb County in Michigan, UAW supervisor Angelo Joseph Lupo allegedly “abused his position of power” to bait a young female employee into his office. He then reportedly trapped her and sexually assaulted her, resulting in serious charges to Lupo, including two counts of Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and one count of Unlawful Imprisonment, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Lupo was subsequently arraigned in the 41A Sterling Heights District Court with a requested bond of $200,000. Magistrate Michael Piatek denied the request and set bond at $50,000. When Lupo is released, he is required to have no contact with the victim and must surrender his passport. The probable cause hearing is scheduled for November 27th, 2024 before District Court Judge Stephen Sierawski.

“Our hearts go out to the victim, who showed immense courage in coming forward. Using a position of authority to exploit and harm another individual is a serious offense, and our office is committed to seeking justice on her behalf,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. It’s not clear which Ford facility the UAW supervisor was apprehended at, although there are two located in Macomb County: the Ford Sterling Axle Plant and the Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center. According to the automaker, The Sterling Axle Plant has 2,312 employees, of which approximately 2.084 are paid an hourly rate. The plant produces axles for a variety of Ford Motor Company vehicles.  Van Dyke currently employs 1,473 employees, with about 1,230 hourly employees assembling previous generation six speed and current generations eight speed automatic transmissions for Ford’s internal combustion and hybrid vehicle lineup, along with eMotor manufacturing.

Last year, the Sterling facility made headlines over a suit alleging workplace cruelty, when a female employee claimed that she experienced harassment from fellow employees on a consistent basis.
