The Ford Focus SVT brought a little pep to the affordable economy car segment when it launched over 20 years ago. It’s picked up a bit of a cult following in recent years, touted for its affordable performance under an unassuming exterior, and occasionally, prime examples cross the auction block. A 2004 Ford Focus SVT was sold last year with just 42,000 miles shown on the odometer, while the hammer fell on another with 43,000 miles racked up in early 2024. Another 2004 Ford Focus ZX5 SVT is currently up for grabs, and it’s in pretty good shape, too.
Available on Bring a Trailer, this 2004 Ford Focus ZX5 SVT is fairly rare. Just 1,079 units were produced for the 2004 model year, which was the final for the hatchback. This one is sure to turn heads, thanks to its appropriately named Screaming Yellow paint, a relatively rare color that reportedly decorated just 66 units. To preserve the paint, this Focus was treated to paint protection film on the hood and side mirrors.
This small but mighty Focus SVT is fitted with the European Appearance Package, which bundles a power sunroof, HID headlights, and heated Recaro front seats. It also sports fog lights and an SVT-tuned suspension. It rolls on a set of five-spoke 17-inch wheels wrapped in 215/45 Continental ExtremeContact tires and decorated with an SVT center cap. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.
Inside, this 2004 Focus features black leather seating surfaces that match the black dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. It features air condition, cruise control, and an Audiophile AM/FM stereo complete with an in-dash CD changer.
Power is sourced from the 2.0L I4 Zetec engine, and it’s fitted with high-compression pistons, forged connecting rods, piston oil squirters, and a host of other performance upgrades. That setup is rated for 170 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, which is routed to the front two wheels via a Getrag six-speed manual transmission.
With 75,000 miles shown on the odometer, this 2004 Ford Focus ZX5 SVT is free of accidents, although the selling dealer notes that there was some paintwork done on the left rear quarter panel after an incident with a wayward shopping cart.
