Among the handful of ultra-famous vehicles that have starred in TV shows or movies over the years, the Batmobile is one of the more widely recognized and iconic, without a doubt. The original build was based on the 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car that was subsequently customized by the late, great George Barris for the original Batman TV show, but has since transformed into a global phenomenon in various forms, which makes it unsurprising that many Batmobile replicas have been created by fans over the years. Now, we can add this very cool 1979 Lincoln Continental to that list.
This 1979 Lincoln Continental Batmobile recreation is set to be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming, flagship Scottsdale sale, where we imagine it will conjure up plenty of interest, given what we’ve seen from other, similar builds recently. In fact, a similar 1978 Lincoln Continental Batmobile recreation just hammered for $271,987 a couple of weeks ago, which is an eye-opening sum, indeed.
As for this 1979 Lincoln Batmobile redo, it utilizes the underpinnings of that model, coupled with a hand-sculpted body designed to look just like the original. It comes from a company called Batrodz Gotham Roadsters in Long Island, New York, which produced those bodies out of fiberglass and sold them to interested parties, complete with an open cockpit design with dual round windshields and black paint.
Power for this TV-inspired machine comes from the naturally-aspirated 400 cubic-inch V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission, but otherwise, one would be hard-pressed to tell that this is really a 1979 Continental, regardless. Now, it’s set to hit the auction block, where more than a few other Batmobile replicas have proven to be red-hot entities among fans of that TV show, as well as the comic book on which it’s based and the many movies that have followed in the years since.
