Of the handful of models that FoMoCo’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) created over its years of existence, most are quite popular and collectible, not to mention well-known among enthusiasts. However, the Ford Contour SVT isn’t exactly any of those things – at least, not yet – though we have started to see a few examples of the performance-focused sedan surface for sale at collector car auctions recently. Now, that list grows yet again with this 1998 Ford Contour SVT, which has a pretty low 36k miles showing on the odometer.
Up for auction at Cars & Bids, this 1998 Ford Contour SVT does have a few flaws worth noting, such as the typical paint scratches and chips, a couple of rust spots, wheel imperfections, seat creases, stains inside the cabin, and wear on various touch points. Regardless, it isn’t every day that we see a Contour SVT of any kind, and this one is sporting Ebony paint on the outside with a Midnight Blue interior.
The Ford Contour SVT got a few upgrades when compared to its regular brethren, including unique 16-inch wheels and a body kit on the outside, coupled with leather sport seats and white SVT gauge faces on the inside, plus four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and front/rear sway bars to help out in the handling department. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 2.5L V6, which was factory-rated to send 195 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
This is one of a few Ford Contour SVT models with low miles that we’ve spotted in recent months, interestingly enough. That list also includes another 1998 model with just 11k miles, plus two from the 2000 model year – one with 16k miles showing on the odometer, and another that has traveled a higher but still reasonable 46k miles since new as well.
