The Ford C-Max was discontinued years ago, but the small and thrifty car continues to present used vehicle shoppers with tremendous value. The C-Max also continues to garner plenty of praise for a variety of reasons. In fact, Consumer Reports has blessed the Ford C-Max with all sorts of accolades in recent years, largely due to not only its reasonable pricing, but also, its excellent fuel economy, modern amenities, and solid reliability. The 2016 Ford C-Max made Consumer Reports‘ latest list of the best used cars one can buy for less than $10,000 right now, as its average list price at the moment falls between $8,700 and $9,850 – making it a proper bargain by today’s lofty standards. To come up with this list, CR looks at two metrics, aside from price – how well each vehicle performed in its road testing when new, as well as the results of its annual surveys collected from members.

Additionally, each model that made the cut this time around came with a host of safety equipment as standard or optional upgrades, including electronic stability control, while some could be had with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic warning systems. Consumer Reports calls the Ford C-Max an “appealing all-around package,” noting that it’s practical thanks to its five-door hatchback body style, but also, it touts rather impressive fuel efficient as well. It also notes that the C-Max is quiet inside the cabin, that it “feels solid and substantial,” it’s fun to drive, and combines good ride quality with solid handling, to boot. The transition from electric to gas power is smooth, and even taller folks can get in and out easily thanks to its tall stance and low entry height.

This isn’t the first time the Ford C-Max has been recognized as being a great choice for used car shoppers, either – in fact, it also ranked as one of the best choices for teens in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, Consumer Reports has also recently added the C-Max to its lists of being one of the most fun cars to drive, the best used vehicles that cost less than $15k, and one of the best overall used cars for 2024, too.

  1. Having driven a fleet C-Max for a number of years it was one of my all time favorite vehicles. Comfortable seats, very roomy in front, smooth ride, and great mpgs. I wouldn’t hesitate buying one and it is one of the reasons I bought a hybrid Maverick when they first came out.
