2022 Ford Edge Among Most Reliable Three Year Old SUVs

The Ford Edge has long been the proverbial apple of Consumer Reports‘ eye, racking up accolade after accolade – not only when it was sold new, but also, various used models as well. The Edge has been lauded for its reliability, safety, value, and fuel efficiency on numerous occasions, highlighting the fact that even though it has been discontinued, the crossover remains a solid choice on the used vehicle market today. Now, that list of accolades has grown yet again, as the 2022 Ford Edge has landed on the latest list of Consumer Reports‘ most reliable three-year-old SUVs.

A rear three quarters view of the 2021 Ford Edge.

This particular list pertains specifically to three-year-old mid-size SUVs and crossovers, which is a bit of a sweet spot since vehicles of that age tend to have the same type of updated tech and safety equipment as newer ones, albeit with lower price tags. Consumer Reports looks to its owner surveys (which include over 300,000 vehicles) to determine reliability scores, then takes into account the presence of safety features like forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), blind spot warning(BSW), and rear cross traffic warning (RCTW).

In that regard, the 2022 Ford Edge made the cut thanks to its above-average reliability score, not to mention its many other positive attributes. CR calls the Ford Edge “a pleasant, well-rounded vehicle” that offers up solid handling, good ride quality, a quality interior, and a premium feel. The 2022 Ford Edge also came equipped with all of the aforementioned safety features as standard, which is another feather in its cap.

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Ford Edge make the list of CR‘s most reliable three-year-old SUVs, as it also landed on this list for the 2020 model year, while the 2022 model also made the cut as one of the most reliability and fuel-efficient such vehicles on sale. Additionally, the Ford Edge was named as one of the best five-year-old used vehicles for the money by iSeeCars, and the 2024 model made the cut on CR‘s most recent list of the most reliable and fuel efficient mid-size SUVs.

  1. Ford should never have stopped producing this great vehicle. Easy access, never had to bend over to get in like I do to get in my Lincoln MKZ . The Edge was a good seller, everyone that had one usually bought another one. Great Car.

  3. Well, I would like to say I own a detainee 19 Ford Edge that was made in Oakville, which I work in Oakville assembly plan. I hesitated buying one of those cars for years. I bought that it was a blue jean color blue and it was the best car I’ve ever owned. I got ran off the road. I rolled the car 4 times I walked away with 3 broken ribs. I think it’s one of the most safest curves I’ve ever driven in my life. One of the nicest curves I’ve ever bought. I missed a cur now. I am driving a Maverick, 2024 Maverick, and I hope it has the best safety like my edge did. If we were still making them, I would have bought another one. We needed an edge hybrid. I would’ve loved it.

  4. My wife had a 2018 Edge Titanium and loved it, even with over 100,000 miles. But when we heard they would no longer build the Edge, we decided to order a 2024 Edge ST, while we could still get one.
It is a great vehicle, just like the Titanium and all other Ford Edges. The Edge is just right for us and many other people that want a little more room than the Escape, but not a full sized Explorer, and want to stay within the Ford family.
I am afraid that Ford Motor Co will loose some people that want the size SUV, and style.

  5. The Ford Edge was the best all-around vehicle I ever leased. I’m looking for a low mileage Edge to buy.

  7. I agree with all of the above but with a big BUT. I own a ’17 Fusion and after 7 years, entry and exit keeps getting more difficult, due to the swoopy styling. The Edge relied on the Fusion for a LOT of parts. Granted, everything has seen the effects of inflation in the last few years, BUT. The Edge was a good value at $35K to start, but not at $40K, where it was when it departed. Nor are the Blazer, Grand Cherokee, et al, a good value. I’d go for a Hyundai Tucson due to the immense cargo area and not much of a loss in terms of passenger volume. Even if the Edge was still being produced.

  8. So of course it was discontinued. My cousin had a Flex, another vehicle that Ford dumped. Are they a special kind of stupid?

  9. I had a 2013,2018 and now 2024. 180,000miles on 2013 210,000miles on 2018 and hoping 2024 is just as good. Love this Edge and yes a hybrid Edge would be perfect.

  10. Thank you Jim Farley. Looks like your mission is to destroy the ford motor company one vehicle at a time. Ford needs to hire who ever runs Toyota. Farley will be known the ceo with the companies highest recalls.

    1. Barra’s not doing much better at GM. When it comes to auto executives in this country we certainly have a bunch of bottom feeders running the show.

  11. My 2024 Edge SEL is my third in a row, after a 2017 and a 2020. Very satisfied.
Ford has been working hard to make sure it doesn’t have any product I’m interested in when I’m in the market for a new vehicle.

  12. I got one of the first 2024 off the line in August of 2023. originally was going to get an Escape to replace my aging 2005 Five Hundred which had served me really well. I expect this will likely be my last car, I keep them going for the long run but don’t drive nearly as much now. Not 10K on it yet in over a year. Damn fine car, glad I got one.
