Over two years ago, Shelby American unleashed the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red, a twin-turbocharged street-illegal powerhouse harnessing 1,300 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque. Just 30 of these incredibly powerful pony cars were built – 10 each for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 model years – meaning they’re incredibly rare. There’s good news for collectors who missed out on the unique build, though, and it’s a lot more affordable, too, thanks to the new Hot Wheels 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red die cast.
The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red die cast is a 1:64 replication of the real-life track car. It features an opening hood for a peek at the molded engine, hidden behind its ZAMAC body type. Its body color is called Spectraflame slate, and features Code Red accents just like the real deal. That red-and-black scheme is carried through to the interior, which can be viewed through the light smoke-tinted windows.
The tiny 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red gets full-metal base with a matte black chassis, and rolls on a set of Real Riders five-spoke modern gloss black wheels. It’s packaged on an illustrated blister card and packed in a Kar Keepers clamshell case for collectors who want to keep it looking nice.
“Our latest Red Line Club choice will leave fellow collectors envious and your action figures asking for the keys” reads the product description. “Its opening hood smoothly reveals what makes it the king of Shelby Mustangs, and pays tribute to an incredibly rare street-illegal star. Only 30 were manufactured by Ford, so you’ll have a better chance of getting our first-ever die-cast edition, and for a fraction of the 1:1 car’s cost.”
For just $25, the Hot Wheels 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Code Red can be purchased on the Mattel Creations website. It’s the perfect addition to any Blue Oval die cast collector’s fleet, and would look right at home alongside the likes of 1:64-scale Wrangler 1985 Ford Bronco, the 1961 Lincoln Continental Premium, and the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302.
