2025 Ford Explorer Drops Iconic Silver Metallic From Lineup

The refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer underwent extensive changes throughout its entire lineup, including to its exterior color lineup. While the crossover gained one new paint color known as Vapor Blue Metallic, it dropped two others, deleting Stone Blue and Forged Green. Now, as of November 15th, 2024 production, another color has been slashed from the options list as the 2025 Explorer leaves Iconic Silver Metallic behind.

Iconic Silver Metallic (paint code JS) was offered on every Explorer trim – that is, Active, ST-Line, ST, and Platinum –  as a no-cost color option, but it was discontinued for Job 2 production at the Chicago Assembly plant. That means units of the 2025 Ford Explorer that were produced on or after November 15th are no longer able to be painted Iconic Silver Metallic.

The deletion of Iconic Silver leaves six exterior color options on offer for the crossover. They are as follows (relevant production codes listed in parentheses):

  • Star White Metallic Tri-Coat (AZ)
  • Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat (D4)
  • Carbonized Gray Metallic (M7)
  • Agate Black Metallic (UM)
  • Oxford White (fleet only) (YZ)
  • Vapor Blue Metallic (K1) (new for 2025)

The 2025 Ford Explorer boasts quite a few revisions as part of its mid-cycle update. For its exterior, the front fascia, headlights, as well as its rear tailgate have received updates. Inside, it gains more front-row row legroom, along with new features such as like new soft touch surfaces, Ford Digital Experience software, and a standard 13.2-inch infotainment screen.

Under the hood, the forthcoming Explorer offers two engine options, including the turbocharged 2.3L I4 EcoBoost, which is standard in the Active, Platinum, and ST-Line, while the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 EcoBoost is standard in the ST and optional in the Platinum. As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Explorer initially ditched its factory-installed Illuminated Door Entry Keypad for a dealer-installed option, which cost $350. Examples produced as part of Job 2 have regained the factory keypad option.

Pricing for the 2025 Ford Explorer starts at $30,340 for the base Active trim, including destination freight charges, but the priciest model in the lineup is the ST, which can carry a price tag of well over $65,000.
