Prospective owners rejoiced when the 2025 Ford Maverick debuted due to the addition of one major feature: all-wheel drive for hybrid models. Finally, those looking for extra traction and the fuel economy advantages of the hybrid powertrain could finally get what they wanted. However, with the 2025 owner’s manual recently showing up online, some were dismayed to see that it explicitly stated that hybrid all-wheel drive models could not be flat towed. As Ford Authority can exclusively report, that information is incorrect.
According to Dawn McKenzie, Ford Trucks communications manager, the owner’s manual in its current form erroneously states that the 2025 Ford Maverick hybrid all-wheel drive cannot be flat towed. We can expect an update to resolve this error too, but for now let the record state that every Maverick hybrid pickup can be recreationally towed. Front-wheel drive hybrid models have always been capable of being flat towed since the pickup’s debut, and that remains the case with the refreshed version too. Ford Maverick 2.0L EcoBoost pickups cannot be flat towed.
Aside from the addition of a hybrid all-wheel drive, the 2025 Ford Maverick refresh brings a lot to the table. For starters, the entire lineup gains a 13.2-inch display with Sync 4, which features wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Additionally, an eight inch digital instrument cluster is standard too. Tech that originally debuted on other Ford vehicles, like the 360-degree camera and advanced trailer tech, have made their way to the Maverick as well. There’s also the all-new Lobo street-performance model, which boasts a lowered ride height and the outgoing Edge ST’s 7-speed automatic transmission, along with a monochromatic paint scheme that is not replicated on any other model. Production of the cheaper Lobo variant begins in February 2025. Although pricing has increased across the board, the pickup remains less expensive than its main rival, the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
