The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E isn’t a refreshed version of the EV crossover, but it does certainly contain a considerable number of updates for the typical model year transition. We already know about many of those updates, as The Blue Oval revealed them just a couple of months ago, and that list includes the addition of a standard heat pump, which is intended to help cut back on range loss when driving in cold weather. However, there is one tradeoff that had to be made to accommodate that new heat pump in the 2025 Mustang Mach-E – a reduction in frunk size, it seems.
In this recent video from Mach-E VLOG, we get a closer look at the 2025 Mustang Mach-E at the Los Angeles Auto Show, showing off all of its new features and updates. That includes a peek in the frunk, which is quite a bit smaller than the one present in current models – a whopping 40 percent smaller, in fact. All of that space wasn’t just needed to accommodate the heat pump itself, but also, the cooling and electrical updates that were required for that part to function as well.
Ford notes that it wound up making this change based on customer feedback – quite a few Mach-E owners have been asking for a heat pump, but it seems as if a lot of those same owners don’t use the frunk in their crossover that much. Rather, most owners tend to use the frunk merely as a place to store the charging cable, or just backpacks and small pieces such as those.
Aside from the new heat pump and a smaller frunk, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E is getting a host of updates, which include losing its windshield wiper de-icer and MyKey feature, while the Premium trim is gaining the new Sport Appearance Package, along with three new color options for the lineup, in general. All 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E crossovers are ditching the old center-mounted dial shifter as well, replacing it with a column shifter that frees up some console space. As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E will be the first to get the new BlueCruise 1.5 update, which is adding an Automatic Lane Change feature, though it hasn’t yet revealed a timeline for that rollout.

The column shifter (which shifts nothing!) is an idea that Cadillac adapted for its EV line, beginning in the 2022 Lyriq. Its function is simple to select driving modes, so it does not need a dedicated space on the center console.
