The Ford Ranger Raptor arrived as part of the next-generation Ranger lineup for the 2024 model year, answering the refreshed 2023 Chevy Colorado and its corporate twin, the 2023 GMC Canyon. Previously, Ford Authority checked out the pricing for the Ranger line against its two crosstown rivals from General Motors, and it turns out, they’re fairly comparable. Now that the specs have been released for all three pickups’ 2025 model year, we’re taking a look at how the Ranger stacks up against the range-topping Colorado ZR2 and Canyon AT4X.

The 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor harnesses the twin-turbocharged 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine, which is tuned to deliver a healthy 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque and mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission. In terms of sheer power, the Ranger Raptor has the Colorado ZR2 and Canyon AT4X beat. Both of GM’s muscular midsize pickups harness the turbocharged 2.7L L3B I4 engine, and each deliver 310 horsepower at 5,600 RPM and 430 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 RPM. Their power, meanwhile, is routed via the eight-speed automatic transmission.
However, while the 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor has the GM twins in the horsepower department, the Colorado and Canyon both weigh quite a bit less than FoMoCo’s entry. The Ranger Raptor tips the scales at 5,325 pounds; for comparison, the Colorado ZR2 weighs 4,910 pounds, and the Canyon AT4X even less at 4,840 pounds.
The small-but-mighty GM twins are also more capable when it comes to towing, too, rated at 6,000 pounds max towing capacity compared to the Ranger Raptor’s 5,510-pound capacity. However, the Ranger Raptor has a slightly better payload capacity of 1,375 pounds, compared to the 1,310- and 1,260-pound ratings credited to the Colorado ZR2 and Canyon AT4X, respectively.
Interestingly, despite differences in weight and engine power, all three pickups share nearly identical fuel economy ratings. Both the 2025 Chevy Colorado ZR2 and the 2025 GMC Canyon AT4X are rated at 17 mpg on average, exactly the same as the 17 mpg average posted by the 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor. However, while you can get away with feeding the GM twins with regular fuel, the Ranger Raptor is happier on premium.
The 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor is a great options for buyers in the market for a capable and fun pickup. It’s recommended by reviewers and even beat the Colorado and Toyota Tacoma in a comparison earlier this year.
