2025 Lincoln Navigator Split Gate: Feature Spotlight

The 2025 Lincoln Navigator ushered in a wide array of changes for the luxury SUV by way of its complete redesign, just like its platform mate, the 2025 Ford Expedition. And just like the Expedition, the 2025 Navigator gets the all-new Split Gate as Ford Authority reported long before the feature’s reveal. Today, we’re explaining exactly what that feature brings to the 2025 Navigator.

Ford Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft, talks about the Split Gate feature in the video below as it pertains to the Expedition, but keep listening to hear him share what led to the the feature’s conception. In fact, it’s the Navigator that can be thanked for the Split Gate’s existence.

The Lincoln Split Gate on the 2025 Lincoln Navigator is a handy feature that makes it a breeze to load up the luxury SUV, or to simply use as a perch while tailgating. This feature divides the liftgate into two sections that operate independently of one another. The top three-quarters of the gate lift up like a traditional tailgate, while the lower quarter lowers like a traditional tailgate that could be found on a pickup.

This helps make it easier to load the luxury SUV, and in case items shifted during transit, it won’t spill out when the user accesses the rear cargo area so long as the tailgate portion is locked in place – which might have saved the wine in Luft’s story from the video. To make things even more convenient, the liftgate opens automatically thanks to the Open On Approach feature, which activates when the key fob or properly programmed  smartphone enters a dedicated field behind the gate. It can also be programmed to lower the tailgate.

As part of its complete redesign, the 2025 Lincoln Navigator slashed five colors from its lineup, gaining Gray Mist, Sunrise Copper Metallic Pearlcoat, and Crystal White Metallic in their place.

Pricing for the 2025 Navigator starts at $101,990 for the Reserve trim, including destination freight charges, although the priciest model can run over $134,000. That’s quite a bit more expensive than the 2024 model year, which make sense – the 2025 Navigator lost the Premiere trim, which was the former entry level model.
