Ty Majeski – the NASCAR Ford driver who clinched the 2024 Truck Series title – was fined for missing the championship media day on November 5th, 2024. Turns out, he had a valid excuse: he was out casting his vote in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Majeski and his team, ThorSport, appealed the fine, but NASCAR announced it’s upholding the penalty.
The three-member appeals panel voted to uphold Majeski’s $12,500 for skipping the mandatory media obligation, according to a report from NASCAR.com. The media day was nonoptional for all championship contenders, and even though Majeski was voting that day, he was still found to be in violation of NASCAR Rule Book’s Section 4.4.A. The appeals panel reached their decision last week, stating, “Driver failed to meet contractual agreement with NASCAR. One of the most, if not most, important media obligations of the entire season.”
A spokesperson for NASCAR stated that Majeski did not disclose his reason for missing the media obligations prior to the fine being issued. The sanctioning body stated that it would have worked with the NASCAR Ford driver to accommodate his absence had he informed them before not showing up.
At this time, Majeski and ThorSport have not indicated if they will escalate the fine to a final appeals panel. The fine was the only penalty; he was not deducted any points toward his Truck Series championship.
Majeski raced his way into the 2024 Playoffs by winning back-to-back races at Indianapolis Raceway Park in June, then followed it up with a victory at Richmond just one week later. He capped off the season with a victory at Phoenix Raceway, clinching the title in the No. 98 NASCAR Ford F-150. He will once again compete in the Truck Series for ThorSport behind the wheel of the No. 98 F-150 and enters the 2025 season as the defending champion.
