Ford C-Max Among CR’s Best Used Cars Under $15K

The Ford C-Max was discontinued some time ago, but the small car continues to present used vehicle shoppers with tremendous value. The C-Max also continues to garner plenty of praise for a variety of reasons. In fact, Consumer Reports has blessed the Ford C-Max with all sorts of accolades in recent years, largely due to not only its reasonable pricing, but also, its excellent fuel economy, modern amenities, and solid reliability. Now, that list has grown yet again. as CR just named the C-Max as one of the best used cars one can buy right now for $15,000 – again.

In its latest list of the best used cars and SUVs priced under $15k, Consumer Reports singled out the Ford C-Max as a great choice in the small car space, and notes that 2017 models, specifically, can be had for anywhere between $8,250 and $10,975. The C-Max carries that organization’s recommended status and owners report averaging around 42 mpg, and the C-Max performed well in CR‘s road testing, plus it has above average reliability and owner satisfaction scores.

Consumer Reports calls the Ford C-Max an “appealing all-around package,” noting that it’s practical thanks to its five-door hatchback body style, but also, rather impressive fuel efficient as well. It also notes that the C-Max is quiet inside the cabin, that it “feels solid and substantial,” it’s fun to drive, and combines good ride quality with solid handling, to boot. The transition from electric to gas power is smooth, and even taller folks can get in and out easily thanks to its tall stance and low entry height.

This isn’t the first time the Ford C-Max has been recognized as being a great choice for used car shoppers, either – in fact, it also ranked as one of the best choices for teens in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, Consumer Reports has also recently added the C-Max to its lists of being one of the most fun cars to drive, the previous list of the best used vehicles that cost less than $15k, and one of the best overall used cars for 2024, too.

  1. Isn’t it strange that Ford discontinues its most reliable and popular vehicles? C-Max, Edge, Fusion: that’s one less model than Buick offers.

  2. Once Ford’s claim of 47 mpg was exposed as being wildly off target, they just gave up on an excellent car. What limited marketing they had in the beginning was built around fuel economy, ignoring all the other attributes mentioned by CR in the article. The company and the dealers quickly pretended it didn’t exist after the first year.

  3. I drove a C-Max as a fleet vehicle and it is everything that is stated above. I really liked it and it is one of the reasons I bought a hybrid Maverick when they first came out.
