Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Ford Edge sales dropped as inventory of the discontinued model gets sold off. A lack of new inventory resulted in an expected discontinuation in segment placement by a few spots from the prior quarter.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee stayed at the top with a six percent slide in sales year-over-year to 54,188 units. The Ford Explorer (see running Ford Explorer sales) maintained second place with a 25 percent bump for 41,996 deliveries. The Honda Pilot, one of two entries from Honda, remained in third with a 38 percent upswing to 36,832 units. The Chevy Traverse (see running Chevy Traverse sales), one of three models here from GM, jumped up to fourth place in spite of a 12 percent decline to 28,390 units. Kia Telluride, one of four entries from the Hyundai-Kia conglomerate, also moved up, this time placing in the top five with a two percent slip for 28,054 deliveries. The Hyundai Palisade, its corporate twin, placed sixth with a 44 percent jump to 28,045 units. The VW Atlas took seventh with a 13 percent rise to 28,041 units, the Hyundai Santa Fe followed in eighth with a 23 percent drop to 27,059 units, and the Kia Sorento posted a sales downturn of nine percent to 22,513 deliveries. The Nissan Pathfinder rounded out the top ten with a 41 percent swell to 19,330 sales.
The GMC Acadia (see running GMC Acadia sales) placed 14th as sales slid six percent to 14,455, while the Chevy Blazer (see running Chevy Blazer sales) took 17th with 29 percent drop to 11,057 units. The Ford Edge (see running Ford Edge sales) followed in 18th with a 60 percent drop to 9,733 deliveries.
Notably absent in the running is the first-ever Toyota Grand Highlander, one of three entries from Toyota. In spite of previously taking the market by storm since its introduction just a year ago, sales evaporated this quarter due to a stop-sale order and production shutdown over the summer due to a recall involving a faulty driver’s side curtain airbag. Consequently, it moved a mere 24 units this time around, falling from fifth place to land next-to-last just ahead of the discontinued Mazda CX-9. Meanwhile, the “regular” Toyota Highlander placed 11th, posting a five percent decrease for 17,179 deliveries.

The Ford Authority Take
Alas, the Ford Edge has been discontinued, with stock dipping below 10K units in September – the final month of the third quarter. In other words, only a few Edges are left on lots.
The 2024 model year was the last one for the Edge, as production ended in early May at the Ford Oakville Assembly plant in Canada. A grand total of 2,609,545 units of the Edge were built over the model’s 2007-2024 lifespan.
However, the nameplate lives on in China via an all-new model, which we really like.

Comments
Come February, after all the idiots are done running to dealerships to get “one of the last new vehicles, ever, they think, because Trump will kill the industry with his tariffs”, COVID-style, THEN we’ll see the impact of just discarding 100K sales a year.
