Ford Escort MK1 RS Continuation Model Officially Debuts

This past June, Boreham Motorworks announced that it had reached a licensing agreement with The Blue Oval that would enable it to build a series of continuation models based on the iconic Ford Escort MK1 RS and RS200. Both models will utilize the same blueprints as the originals, albeit with some tweaks and continuation VINs, but otherwise, the company didn’t release too many details – other than the fact that it planned to debut the continuation Ford Escort MK1 RS, specifically, later in the year. Now, this new/old rally machine has indeed been fully revealed.

Boreman Motorworks calls its revamped Ford Escort MK1 RS a “Continumod,” a “blueprint-accurate, period-sympathetic vehicle built new” without the use of any sort of donor car, meaning that it is, indeed, brand new. Only 150 total units will be built, however, each from the ground up using modern materials and manufacturing techniques, with two engine options available. Those include a twin-cam 1,845cc fuel-injected powerplant making 185 horsepower mated to a four-speed speed manual synchromesh straight cut transmission.

The second engine choice is a brand new motorsport-derived 2.1L four-cylinder with dual overhead cams that can rev to 10,000 rpm and churns out 300 horsepower, mated to a five-speed dogleg gearbox. Customers can opt for a left- or right-hand drive format, while weight distribution comes in at 55:45. Underneath, one will find MacPherson struts, coilovers, an aluminum and titanium fully floating rear axle, and a limited-slip ATB differential, but no power steering, ABS, traction control, or brake servo.

As for the steel body, the continuation Ford Escort MK1 RS has been fully re-engineered in CAD, but isn’t entirely identical to the original, as it features some updates such as wider fender flares and additional bracing, with a weight target of 800 kilograms (1,763 pounds) thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials throughout. The interior is quite luxurious with a mixture of modern amenities, Alcantara, and leather, along with three-point belts, an optional roll cage, and even helmet storage.

As one might imagine, the Ford Escort MK1 RS Continumod won’t be cheap, with pricing starting out at £295,000 ($374,781 USD). Production is slated to begin in Q3 2025, and despite its lofty price tag, we don’t doubt that Boreham will have no trouble selling all 150 units quickly.
