The Ford Explorer has long been a popular choice among both new and used vehicle shoppers, offering up plenty of utility and room for the whole family – not to mention loads of amenities, trims, and configurations, to boot. Thus, the Ford Explorer is a regular at or near the top of the sales charts in both categories, most recently ranking as the ninth most popular used vehicle of any kind in 2023 as well. That was also the case in 2024, at least, as it pertains to the top-selling used vehicles at Carvana.
Carvana just released its list of the best-selling used vehicles of 2024, and the Ford Explorer ranked fifth this time around, behind only the Tesla Model 3, Chevy Equinox, Nissan Rogue, and Ford Escape. The Ford Explorer also beat out the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Nissan Altima, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Ford F-150 SuperCrew to round out this particular list. Interestingly, the Model 3 wasn’t even in Carvana’s top 20 last year, but with prices plummeting and inventory rising, it made quite the jump year-over-year.
“In 2024, Carvana surpassed two million cars sold lifetime-to-date, and the models leading our sales this year illustrate the broad range of tastes and preferences among online car buyers,” said Kevin Fitzgerald, Senior Director, Purchasing at Carvana. “Carvana is committed to offering an unparalleled selection of vehicles to fit every need and lifestyle.”
As Ford Authority previously reported, the 2021 Ford Explorer, specifically, landed on the Fall 2024 version of the bi-annual Consumer Reports list of the most popular used vehicles on the market, based on the used model pages on its own site that drive the most traffic, meaning that they’re the most searched-for used vehicles overall. Further helping its case is the fact that the Ford Explorer has seen the fourth-largest decrease in terms of average pricing for used examples over the past year – a 7.4 percent decline, from $34,667 to $32,105, too.
