Ford F-150 Lightning Gets New Sync 4A Update

Since it launched for the 2022 model year, the Ford F-150 Lightning has received continuous improvements with each passing model year, many of which pertain to its Sync 4A software. Much of this is made possible by the EV pickup’s over-the-air-update capability, meaning that the truck can quite literally improve itself overnight while parked in the garage. Now, the 2022-2024 Ford F-150 Lightning and its Sync 4A system have received another notable update for customers in the U.S., Europe, and Canada.

Based on customer feedback, Ford has made several changes to the Sync 4A software in the F-150 Lightning, all of which are available through OTA updates with an eye toward making the “touchscreen interface more intuitive and user-friendly,” according to Ruth Vann, UX (HMI) Application Supervisor at Ford. For starters, tools including Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Zone Lighting, which were previously located under the settings menu, now have their own dedicated apps on the Apps screen, making it easier to access them on the fly.

On top of that, all camera view options can now be found on a single screen that’s easier to access without the need for scrolling, and the settings menu has been tweaked to display all pertinent information on one page. External media sources such as Bluetooth and USB are now lumped together in a single Media app, and the main navigation bar icons are new and more intuitive, to boot.

In addition to this particular update for the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Ford Mustang Mach-E  also received some tweaks earlier this year that are quite similar to its EV pickup counterpart’s – and The Blue Oval even threw some Easter Eggs into that mix for good measure, including a Sketch app for passengers that enables them to easily craft drawings or doodles using the center touch screen when parked.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  2. Well!!! What about ALL of the Existing “CUSTOMERS” that ALSO HAVE “ALL” of these Options on their F-150 ICE TRUCKS / Vehicles that were PAID FOR AT PURCHASE of the Vehicle’s??? What about “US”????? What the Heck is Going on here????? Our F-150 has the “ORIGINAL” 1.0 Software for the CRAPPY BLUE CRUISE we have to Deal With???? What about our 12″ Entertainment Screens???? This is a Bunch Of Bull Crap!!! I have had every customer service rep on the Phone with FORD (Most of them know me by Name), and Not a SINGLE One of them in ANY department can answer any of these Questions? And there answer to me for the LOUSY SOFTWARE ISSUES that the 1 . 0 Bluecruise Contains is….. You’ll Have to “TRADE IN YOUR 2022 F-150 FOR A NEWER F-150 to GET THE LATEST SOFTWARE”???? YES!!! 3 Of the CUSTOMER RELATIONS PEOPLE, Including in the (OTA DEPARTMENT) Have said the SAME THING????? Our Truck was $88,000.000 Out the Door. Ya Gotta be KIDDING ME???? 👎👎🤬………. Absolutely Unacceptable and Un Professional!! And We ARE NOT TRADING IT IN on a NEW TRUCK!!!! Ya Gotta Be KIDDING?????

    1. Careful what you wish for. Just got an OTA for the Gateway Module on my 2022 F150 Lightning. It killed the 12V battery and bricked my Lightning. Luckily, the dealership that services my Lightning got it sorted out in one day.
But it still left me stranded. And Ford’s Roadside Assistance is a joke. Four tow companies were assigned this tow and none of them showed up. Four hours later I called a local tow company and they showed up 20 minutes after calling them. I had to pay them out of pocket.
As soon as I got home from the dealership I disabled the OTA feature because while previous updates didn’t disable my Lightning, most turned off or reconfigured my settings, while not tragic it’s still annoying.
