Over the past few months, demand for all-electric vehicles has trailed expected levels of growth following a red hot period of several years, even as sales continue to grow. Regardless, this has prompted many automakers to scale back production to meet demand, and that includes the Ford F-150 Lightning. In fact, Ford recently announced that it’s idling production of its EV pickup at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center for several weeks for that very reason. Now, the launch of one of its future rivals – the Ram 1500 REV – has been delayed as well.
According to Stellantis, the automaker will delay the launch of the all-electric Ram 1500 REV from the first half of 2025 to 2026 as it plans to prioritize production of the extended-range EV variant dubbed the Ram 1500 Ramcharger. Just a few weeks ago, the Ram 1500 REV was pushed back from Q4 2024 to H1 2025, so this is the second delay the all-electric pickup has experienced in short order. “The decision to launch Ramcharger first was driven by overwhelming consumer interest, maintaining a competitive advantage in the technology and slowing industry demand for half-ton BEV pickups,” Stellantis said of this decision.
The Ram 1500 REV certainly isn’t alone in this delay, as the next-generation all-electric F-150 (which may or may not wear the Lightning nameplate) was recently pushed back to 2027 as well. The automaker noted that it’s working on taking all of the feedback it has received from F-150 Lightning customers to make a better product in that regard, with “features and experiences never seen on any Ford truck” – a list that includes bi-directional charging capability and advanced aero. This delay also intends to take advantage of falling battery prices as the market continues to take shape.
In the meantime, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger will utilize a 92 kWh battery pack and a pair of electric motors to generate a combined 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, offering up a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds, along with a payload capacity of 2,625 pounds and 14,000 pounds of towing capability. It will also feature a gas engine that’s designed to kick in and provide the pickup with extended driving range when needed, after the battery pack has run out of charge.

It will be interesting to see what RAM does with Tim Kuniskis back and Carlos Tavares gone. Bring on the RAM TRX Redeyes!
Indeed. Raised as a Ford guy, and have owned several. but, my current ride is a Durango R/T that I love. Hopeful that TK’s return means good things for the brands.
