The Ford Authority Take

Though sales of both Mustang models were in the red during Q3 2024, both models led their respective segments this quarter, and sales of both were up year-to-date.

The electric Mach-E outsold its gasoline-powered sibling by more than 4K units, although both are distinctly different vehicles competing in very different segments and for very different customers.

About Ford Mustang

The all-new, seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang debuts as more than a simple refresh, redesigned inside and out while offering new tech. The overhauled cabin features a fighter jet-inspired cockpit with a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, and a new Sync 4 powered 13.2-inch infotainment screen, replacing the analog gauges with highly configurable ones.

Performance-wise, the Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost continues to serve as the base engine, with FoMoCo saying it is all-new. That is also true for the Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote, which is the engine’s fourth-generation, utilizing dual throttle bodies and a dual air intake box to help make it the most powerful naturally-aspirated Coyote-powered Mustang ever. Both the six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic transmissions will continue to be offered on the S650.

In April, 2024 Ford Mustang owners got heritage gauge clusters and a SVT Cobra-inspired digital cluster courtesy of a software update.

For the 2025 model year, the Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Package debuts, available on GT Premium models in both coupe and convertible configurations, and with either the six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. Paint color choices include Wimbledon White, Race Red, and Vapor Blue paint, plus Brittany Blue for a limited time, which debuted on the pony car in 1967.

Also for 2025, the Mustang drops four colors but adds two new ones, drops the EcoBoost High Performance Package, and drops wireless phone charging. However, it gains standard dual zone climate control and B&O sound system availability has expanded.

Production of the 2025 Ford Mustang kicked off in November.

About Ford Mustang Mach-E

For 2024, the first-ever Mustang Mach-E Rally debuts as an off-road-capable EV, looking the part with a unique front fascia, fog lights, a hatch-mounted rear wing, stripes, and a black-painted roof. Meanwhile, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT debuts a new Bronze Appearance Package along with optional bronze wheels, with an example recently spotted in the wild.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Premium gets a new standard roof to replace the now-optional panoramic fixed-glass roof. Additionally, the revised 2024 lineup gets a new electric motor and extended range.

Additionally, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E lineup drops the California Route 1 trim as well as the Nite Pony Package and the GT Performance Edition, though the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT gains most of the upgrades from that package as standard, like the MagneRide system – but not the increased torque offered by the Performance Edition.

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E brings significant updates, while a Mustang Mach-E redesign is on track for a 2027 debut according to a report.

  1. Raising the price of V8 Mustang $3000 out to help sales a bunch. Fords incessant greed is going to hurt the company and its already showing.

  2. $60-65,000 for a Mustang GT? I don’t think so. Ford has killed the Golden goose.

  3. Trying to make up for lost sales of other vehicles they have raised their prices out of reach for most 50 to 70k. I went to stealership they had added an addendum sticker for more money. Car mats 300 dollars, mop and glow sealant for 250 just added nonsense. I won’t consider a new on anymore.

  4. Last year, Mustang had two domestic competitors. They now have none and this is the best they can do? Guess the era of the passenger car is over, or they have priced themselves out of the market. Neither bodes well.

  5. I bought a new 2024 GT Premium Mustang in July 2024. It’s a great car with a stupid dash. I priced an identical 2025. The sticker is now $5000 more with the exact same packages. I guess this will be my last Mustang…

    1. Thank goodness dementia Joe and his henchmen in congress passed in inflation reduction act. That really lowered prices. We all owe them a debt of gratitude.
      Thanks Joe!!!🙂

    2. It’s looking that way for me as well. Bought a new 2020 GT350 and its nearly paid off and was looking forward to getting a Dark Horse Premium similarly equipped but that car is 81k before taxes, title and tags. Toss in the CF wheels and its 90k. The problem of course is there isn’t any real value there. The S650 chassis is “new” in the same way the SN95 chassis was “new” compared to the fox-body (really just an effort to make sure the car passed government crash and safety mandates).

I’ve been saying ever since the Mustang GTD launched, Ford should have updated the S650 with an SLA IFS and the transaxle for dynamic improvements to the car (a “mass neutral” chassis with more lightweight materials to offset the weight gain would have been nice). Especially when the base Corvette is 70k and with the Z51 package comes to just over 76k. Even with the lack of a manual trans option. The vette is a better deal and the lack extra equipment no real deal killer. Similarly equipped the C8 Z51 3LT is 88k which puts the vette within 7k of the Mustang (there is no real apples to apples comparison since the Z06 is so superior and the Dark Horse offers a paltry 15hp over the standard Mustang GT and in effect the Dark Horse w/handling package is the Mustang equivalent of the vette 3LT Z51). For 7k more you get an all-aluminum/composite plastic panel mid-engine car (with IFS SLA and IRS of course) with a lower curb weight and only really lose out on some cargo space and nigh useless back seat. I want to like the Mustang Dark Horse but it’s coming up so short in the value department by a huge margin.

When I purchased my 2020 GT350 Handling Pack car it was 65k and was fully loaded with the standard Recaros (extra cost option on the DH) and offers a lot more character over the Dark Horse thanks to the 5.2 Voodoo and the significant differences in appearance over the standard Mustang GT not to mention the excellently tuned chassis and composite braking system with 6/4 Brembos (the DH can only muster the two-piece rotors from the Shelby GT350 in the front with a much cheaper cast iron single piece rotor for the rear). There was a lot of value in that car, especially compared to the later Mach 1 and of course Dark Horse.

I’ve purchased nothing but Mustangs starting in 1992 till 2020 (91 LX 5.0, 2002 GT, 2007 GT, 2009 GT500, 2015 GT, 2017 GT350, and 2020 GT350 so nearly 30 years of loyalty and every car after the LX was purchased brand new ) so I’m definitely a fan but the price gouging and lack of content is driving me away despite being a fan (even went to Le Mans France this past summer to see the Mustang GT3 race). I echoed this post when the S650 first rolled out but still managed to find a little bit of value but the current price increase and the possibility it continues like clockwork for essentially a rehashed S550 Mustang means by the time I go to buy in a few years the Dark Horse will be approaching 90k to 100k and it’s not like my income hasn’t grown either since I make about 30k more a year now compared to when I bought the GT350 so again it comes down to the value argument and to Ford I say do better, give me a reason to spend that kind of money when I can easily go Corvette or even Porsche (718 Cayman S with superior dynamics and build quality) for that matter.
