Ford Mustang GTD Driver Offers Nürburgring Commentary: Video

The Ford Mustang GTD managed to delivery on Blue Oval CEO Jim Farley’s promise of achieving a sub-seven-minute lap time at Germany’s legendary Nurburgring recently, as Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller piloted the pony car to a certified time of 6:57:685, making it the very first vehicle from an American brand to complete a lap at the ‘Ring in under seven minutes. Now, a few days later, FoMoCo has released another video, this time, with some interesting insight from Müller on his historic feat.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD at the Nurburgring.

While many of us are familiar with the track known as “Green Hell” via video games or any countless number of videos that exist out there, this clip is still rather interesting, with Müller discussing the need to go full throttle over bumpy surfaces and lay hard on the brakes after exiting corners at speeds of well over 100 mph. There are many intricate details that can’t be overlooked if one wants to set a strong lap time, either – in fact, Müller notes that overshooting just one corner “kills your lap time.”

Making matters worse is the fact that drivers quite literally can’t see certain portions of the track as they approach them. On one particular section, coming over a bridge, Müller notes that “as you can see, you can’t see.” Müller also points out specific portions of his lap that left a little room for improvement – such as when he hits a curb just slightly at one point, and there’s also one particular curb that drivers used to make contact with on purpose as a way to maintain speed through a corner, though following some recent changes to the Nurburgring, that’s no longer possible.

Overall, this video provides some truly fascinating insights into what it takes to conquer the ‘Ring, and it also helps explain why The Blue Oval is keen to come back and try its hand at beating the historic Ford Mustang GTD lap time next year. In the meantime, another video showing this impressive run – which bested a number of pricey exotics – can be viewed here, too.
