Ford has struggled with the European market for the past several years amid increasing competition and the rise of cheap, fully electric vehicles. That said, its subcompact has routinely been a best seller since its debut in 2021, a rare bright spot for the automaker in the region. With a push towards offering a full range of gas, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles, it has now officially revealed the all-new Ford Puma Gen-E, which will be the company’s least expensive EV when it goes on sale in February 2025.
As expected of an electrified variant of a preexisting model, the new Ford Puma Gen-E hews very closely to the refreshed gasoline and hybrid models that went on sale earlier this year. That said, the Gen-E features a unique front end with its own front fascia, complete with what Ford says is a “shield” design for the grille that took inspiration from the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
As expected, the crossover borrows the E-Tourneo Courier’s electric powertrain, complete with a 43 kWH usable battery with a WLTP-estimated 506 kilometer (314 mile) range in the city and 364 kilometer (226 mile) in mixed driving on a 100 percent charge. DC fast-charging can bring the Ford Puma Gen-E from 10-80 percent in approximately 23 minutes. As for performance, the subcompact boasts an 8 second 0-62 miles per hour rating, with its 165 horsepower drivetrain. Additionally, the automaker says the electric’s steering response is comparable to that of the ST performance model.
Cargo capacity is also improved for the new subcompact, with the Ford Puma Gen-E packing the Gigabox, an even larger rear storage area than the MegaBox branded cargo space that’s featured in the gasoline models. With the rear seats in place, the company says the Gigabox is good for 574 liters of storage. With the lack of an engine and transmission freeing up space under the hood, the Blue Oval also opted to outfit the subcompact with a frunk, good for 43 liters of total space.
Inside, the new Ford Puma Gen-E inherits the gasoline lineup’s standard 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system. Instead of a floor shifter, it boasts a “simplified electronic shifter” that looks quite similar to what the automaker added to the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E.
“Puma is a success story, loved for its sporty design and driving characteristics combined with unique practicality and class-leading boot storage,” said Jon Williams, general manager, Ford Blue and Model e, Europe. “Puma Gen-E is our best ever Puma, with the most fun-to-drive experience yet, combined with an incredibly energy-efficient electric powertrain. And the new, even bigger GigaBox offers unmatched luggage capacity.”
Ford Puma Gen-E orders are open now, with an expected February 2025 delivery date. In the United Kingdom, it starts at £29,995 for the Select trim. It arrives not long after the company cut production of the newly launched Ford Capri and Ford Explorer electric vehicles and called on European governments to offer incentives for battery powered vehicles due to waning demand.

Majority opinion that I’ve seen so far is that it looks like an unfortunate-looking bug that needs to be squashed. Yellow was a terrible color choice for its debut.
Looks like a wide eyed baby Mach-E!
Originality for what, right? At least I hope it makes up for the rest compared to its competitors, because its sales have dropped well!
