The Ford Ranger is a popular choice among mid-size pickup shoppers in many global markets, and that’s especially true in South America. There, the recently-redesigned Ford Ranger has been one of the hottest new vehicles on the market in places like Brazil, where that model has enjoyed a 60 percent year-over-year sales increase through the duration of 2024 thus far. Now, those same owners can also be confident that their Ranger pickups are quite safe to drive around in as well.
That’s because the Ford Ranger produced in Argentina for Brazil and South America has received a perfect five star rating in the Latin NCAP impact tests (the New Car Evaluation Program for Latin America and the Caribbean), a feat obtained under the organization’s stricter new protocols. The Ford Ranger was evaluated in the categories of frontal impact, side impact, side pole impact, cervical whiplash, pedestrian protection, electronic stability control, emergency braking system, lane support systems, speed assistance, and blind spot detection.
When that testing was complete, the Ford Ranger achieved scores of 93.11 percent in protection for adult occupants, 89.80 percent for child occupants, 74.77 percent in the protection of pedestrians and vulnerable road users, and 92.01 percent in safety assistance. “The Ford Ranger was developed to redefine the segment, with innovative engineering solutions, and the result of Latin NCAP reinforces the superiority of its attributes. We are very happy to offer our customers a pickup truck with the highest score in safety in the strictest protocol in force,” said Gilmar de Paula, chief engineer of the Ranger Platform in South America.
This is just the latest of many safety-related accolades the new Ford Ranger has accumulated across the globe in recent months. In fact, the Ranger also achieved a perfect five-star rating in Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) testing, won the “Safest Car of 2023” for mid-size pickups from the Center for Experimentation and Road Safety (CESVI) in Argentina, and also received a five star rating from Euro NCAP.
