Ford Ranked Second For Most Issued Recalls Of 2024

It’s no secret that Ford has struggled with various quality issues for years now, a problem that has plagued not only owners of affected models, but also, the automaker’s bottom line. Surging warranty costs have taken a massive bite out of the automaker’s profits as of late, and that figures to continue for a while, given the fact that it’s still paying for issues that occurred years ago. Regardless, Ford did manage to improve in terms of the sheer number of recalls it issued in 2024 compared to one of its peers, at least.

In fact, Stellantis actually took the crown as the most-recalled automotive manufacturer in 2024 after issuing a total of 72 recalls, with Ford ranking second after dishing out 63 of its own. Forest River ranked third with 59 recalls, followed by BMW (36), General Motors (33), Mercedes-Benz (27), Hyundai (25), Daimler Trucks (21), Kia (20), Jaguar Land Rover (20), Volkswagen Group (18), and International Motors (18) rounding out the top 12.

This ranking is rather notable given the fact that Ford was the most-recalled automotive manufacturer in 2021 with 53 recalls issued, and it repeated that ranking in 2022 with 67 recalls, and in 2023 as well, with 54 recalls. Ford did actually issue more recalls over the past year than it did in those three years – minus 2022 – but Stellantis managed to beat it by a long shot, regardless. Ford also held onto the top spot at the conclusion of the first half the year, but wound up slipping slightly over the second half.

As Ford Authority reported last week, FoMoCo’s top five recalls for the year in terms of the sheer number of vehicles involved totaled millions of models, with the biggest pertaining to 1,889,110 different 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles and faulty A-pillar trim retention clips that can result in those pieces falling off. Regardless, the automaker has also posted some notable improvements in terms of initial quality this past year, as more than one recent study has proven, so perhaps things will continue to get better throughout 2025.

  1. Still being number two in recalls isn’t anything to celebrate all it shows is Stellantis cares less about quality control than you do.

  2. It’s not number of recalls, it’s the number of vehicles recalled. Ford is in third position. Who the heck is Forest River? Never heard of them.

  3. My 2023 Maverick had 3 recalls, one is still outstanding. None of these recall problems have occurred on my vehicle. I feel totally safe driving it. I was told by the dealer this morning the back up camera recall will be fixed next year sometime.

  5. I believe the majority of recalls are digital technology based. One example, 2019 Ford Ranger transmission issues; the 10 speed may lurch and/or shift unevenly under low speed conditions. The fix is to download updated software into the vehicle’s computer as opposed to repairing or replacing expensive mechanical components. No excuses, but “just sayin.”
