For several years now, Apple users have been able to utilize the FordPass app on their smart watches, which can be quite convenient for those that lock/unlock or start their vehicles without having to pull their phone out of their pocket, as well as view various other pieces of information. However, that same capability has thus far not been available to those with a smart watch running Google’s WearOS software, though now, it has finally arrived.
As first reported by Tech-Issues Today, FordPass is now available on WearOS devices, and is available to download in the Google Play store. In addition to the aforementioned features, the FordPass WearOS app also allows users to do things like view their EV’s state of charge or precondition the cabin, and it can be customized for easy access. However, there are a few things missing that users may want to see in a future update – such as the ability to stop or start charging sessions and open or close the trunk/frunk, for example.
There have been a couple of other complaints from early users, such as the fact that the FordPass WearOS app requires users to enter a PIN or pattern lock to access it for security purposes, and the app must interact with a phone from time to time. Regardless, this is the first time Android users have been able to access something like this since the MyFord Mobile app initially became available on first-generation Android Wear watches.
In the meantime, Apple iOS users have gained several FordPass features in recent months. Those include a recent update that allows customers to view key vehicle health details at a glance, as this feature has been relocated under Service, add lock and unlock commands for their vehicles directly in the control center, add home screen widgets to view critical vehicle information at a glance, and preferred charge times for EVs can now be updated from the energy tab.
