NASCAR Ford team Front Row Motorsports (FRM) has signed Chandler Smith to pilot one of its Ford F-150 race cars in the 2025 Truck Series season. Smith previously raced for Toyota, driving the No. 81 Toyota TRD Supra part-time for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in the 2024 Xfinity Series. His stint with FRM marks his debut in a Ford race car.
During the 2024 season, Smith earned two wins, 17 top-five finishes and 22 top-10s for JGR. He was part of Toyota Racing Development’s TD2 driver development system from 2018 until the end of the 2022 racing season, briefly leaving the manufacturer’s fold to drive a Chevy Camaro SS in the Xfinity Series during the 2023 season, finishing ninth in overall points.
Prior to his time in the Xfinity Series, Smith raced a Toyota TRD Tundra in the Truck Series. He boasts five victories, 24 top-fives, and 35 top-10s in the division, making him a valuable asset to FRM’s Truck Series efforts.
“I’m excited to join Front Row Motorsports truck program,” Smith said in a team release. “They are a top contender in the Truck Series and have proven so with championships and wins. I like what they are building here and am honored to have the opportunity to add to it. We are getting a bit of a late start, but I am excited about thecaliber of talent we are talking to in being a part of this program for 2025.”
At this time, FRM has not revealed the sponsor lineup for Smith’s NASCAR Ford truck entry. The team has also not released any paint schemes or the number that will decorate the side of Smith’s F-150 race truck.
It’s worth noting that FRM is currently in the throes of an ongoing lawsuit against NASCAR itself regarding the charter agreement in the Cup Series division. The court recently ruled to grant FRM its charters back for the 2025 season, although NASCAR announced it’s appealing that decision, meaning the Ford team could still race as an unchartered Cup Series entry in 2025.
