Here’s When 2025 Ford Transit Production Will Begin

Though the Ford Transit hasn’t been treated to a proper mid-cycle refresh or redesign in some time, the van remains as popular as ever, holding a commanding lead in the full-size van space. The same is also true of the all-electric E-Transit, which has received a host of updates since its debut in 2022, and remains a popular option among commercial fleets looking to make the switch to EV power. For those looking ahead to the 2025 model year, we now know when production of the Ford Transit and E-Transit are slated to begin, too.

According to sources familiar with the matter, production of the 2025 Ford Transit and E-Transit are currently scheduled to start at the Kansas City Assembly plant on January 21st, 2025, though as is always the case, that date is subject to change. As it turns out, both the 2025 Ford Transit and E-Transit are set to receive a rather large number of notable updates for the new model year, too.

The 2025 Ford E-Transit is ditching the old standard range, 68 kWh battery pack – which was was previously available on Cargo Van, Cutaway, and Chassis Cab models – for the new, standard 89 kWh battery, which is now available for all 2025 Ford E-Transit configurations. This is particularly notable as the extended range battery that debuted in the 2024 E-Transit was all-new at the time, and compared to the smaller 68 kWh unit, improved range from 126 miles up to 159 miles in top spec, which represented an increase of 26 percent for low-roof and 32 percent for high-roof models.

Additionally, while output remained unchanged at 266 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, the 2024 Ford E-Transit also got faster charging speeds thanks to the presence of new, dual onboard chargers that provide peak speeds of up to 176 kW. That means that the EV van can add up to 67 miles of range in low-roof cargo van configuration in 15 minutes, which is 49 percent quicker than the older model. Other than these updates, the 2025 Ford E-Transit is also available with a number of new packages and upfitter kits, all of which feature a variety of components from Ranger Design and are designed specifically for different industries.

In terms of sales, the Ford Transit posted a seven percent decrease in November 2024, but remains atop the full-size van charts with a commanding 37 percent share – compared to the Ram ProMaster at 25 percent – and it up 13.51 percent year-to-date with a month to go. The E-Transit also remains atop its segment as sales jumped 357.56 percent to 1,240 units last month, though it is down around six percent year-to-date with 36,494 units sold.
