Italian Parts Manufacturer Proma Acquires Ford Supplier Recaro

Recaro Automotive, a well-known seat manufacturer that has produced seats for quite a few models, including the seventh-generation Ford Mustang, declared bankruptcy a few months ago, surprising consumers and employees alike. Just one month after filing for insolvency, Recaro resumed production, fulfilling existing orders in addition to new inquiries. Now, the company has been acquired by Proma, an Italian parts manufacturer, solidifying its plans for the future.

Proma Group dropped the announcement on December 4th, 2024, stating that they signed an investment agreement with Recaro Automotive. Proma will take over business and have already begun the transition period and expect for operations at Recaro to resume in January 2025. Aftermarket seats will become available on the market after January, while OEM production – including seats for Ford vehicles – will soon commence in Italy, relocated from Germany.

Proma also indicated that it will keep several employees from Recaro’s original Sales and Technology departments, which will remain in Germany, ensuring a more seamless transition. Proma notes that Recaro operations in North America and Japan are continuing to function as usual, and will not be affected by the aforementioned relocation to Italy.

“Our investment in Recaro Automotive will strengthen our ability to deliver a premium seating product, while embracing the most cutting-edge innovations in the automotive sector,” said Luca Pino, CEO of Proma Group, in a press release. “The RECARO name is renowned throughout the world as a benchmark of German industrial technology, and Proma Group, a symbol of Italian manufacturing excellence, is excited about the future and the quality that will be expressed in the automotive market thanks to the union of two first-class companies.”

Throughout the 2024 calendar year, Recaro has released a host of new seats for several Ford vehicles in addition to its offerings right from the factory. Those include a retro-style seat for the Fox Body Mustang, as well as an aftermarket set for the 2024 Ford Mustang.

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time Recaro has changed hands. Back in 2020, the manufacturer was acquired by Raven Acquisitions, LLC.
