The 2025 Lincoln Aviator offers the Dynamic Handling Package, a bundle that’s packed with upgrades to the suspension designed to elevate this luxury crossover’s comfort and performance. Among these enhancements is an air suspension feature. Ford Authority is now taking a close look at the Aviator air suspension system.
Benefits
Officially called the Air Glide Suspension with Dynamic Lower Entry, Lincoln Aviator air suspension delivers several benefits, including:
- Automatically adjusting to maintain a consistent frame height, delivering improved ride quality and vehicle aero
- Easier ingress and egress (getting in and out of the vehicle)
- Easier to load items in to the trunk/cargo area
- Ability to decrease or increase ground clearance
The Aviator air suspension can be adjusted via the selectable drive modes, which can be accessed through the luxury crossover’s infotainment system.
In Motion
It can increase the ride height by roughly 1.2 inches (30 mm) at low speeds to increase ground clearance, or to lower the vehicle by approximately 0.6 inches (15 mm) to improve aerodynamics at higher speeds.
The air suspension also makes cargo loading easier, lowing the vehicle automatically when it detects that the liftgate is being opened, thereby lowering the platform (trunk floor) on which to place cargo. Once the liftgate is closed, the Aviator returns to its normal height after a short time. Note that the Aviator may only lower for cargo on one or two occasions per ignition cycle to preserve its battery life.
Stationary
Finally, the Aviator air suspension allows the luxury crossover to “kneel” for passengers, as Ford Authority reported back in 2019. This makes it easier to enter and exit the Aviator. The system engages (by descending) when:
- It detects the presence of an intelligent access key
- The driver uses the key fob to unlock or remotely start the vehicle
- When the Phone as Key function is activated
Note that the leveling process pauses when its target level is reached, or if a vehicle door is opened. Another way to stop the leveling process is to press the lock button on the key fob.
Availability
The Dynamic Handling Package (option code 67B), which includes the above air suspension system, is optional on the 2024 Lincoln Aviator Black Label and 2025 Aviator Reserve, while being standard on the 2025 Aviator Black Label.
Comments
The air suspension should be also on the new 2025 Navi
It does not automatically lower when you approach the vehicle with your fob. You have to double click the open button on the fob. This is inconvenient if fob is in your briefcase or purse. Also doesn’t work with phone as key.
If you pick someone up, you have to shut the engine off, pull your fob out and double click the unlock to lower the car for your passenger.
I have the same feature on my 1955 Packard 400 Hardtop . After 7 seconds the auto will return to the original height . I can receive passengers . fuel or trunks to the Packard through the action of foolproof torsion bar suspension that was developed by Mr. Allison .formerly from Hudson Motors but later employed by Packard Motor Co. ” Ask the Man who Owns One ” .
Given Ford’s quality issues, it’s a bad idea to offer the air suspension, as owners will wait for the inevitable recall.
