Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
The Lincoln Aviator (see running Lincoln Aviator sales) saw sales leap a whopping 279 percent to 5,543 deliveries in Q3 2024. Despite the impressive delta, the Aviator maintained eighth place from the previous quarter when ranked by sales volume in the luxury E-utility segment.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class was back in the lead thanks to a 13 percent uptick to 15,274 sales. The BMW X5 traded places for second with a 22 percent slip to 12,425 units. The Lexus GX jumped to third place with a 44 percent swell to 11,765 units; while the GX is a traditional, body-on-frame SUV like the Lincoln Navigator, it’s closer to the Aviator in terms of size. The Volvo XC90 followed in fourth with a 20 percent drop to 8,636 units, and the Infiniti QX60 rounded out the top five with an eight percent drop to 6,941 units.
The Aviator placed eighth. FoMoCo’s crosstown rival, GM, fields two entries in this space: the Buick Enclave (see running Buick Enclave sales) and the Cadillac XT6 (see running Cadillac XT6 sales). The Enclave fell a few spots to take tenth with a 51 percent drop to 5,161 units as the all-new 2025 model goes through a generational changeover, while the XT6 moved up one place to 11th with a six percent bump for 4,342 deliveries.
Place third last time around, the first-ever Lexus TX fell to the bottom with no deliveries this quarter due to a stop-sale order and production shutdown over a recall involving a faulty driver’s side curtain airbag.

The Ford Authority Take
Even though Lincoln Aviator sales grew nearly 300 percent on a year-over-year basis during the third quarter of 2024, it wasn’t enough to move the model from eighth place in its segment (when ranked by sales volume) as it continues to face stiff competition in hotly-contested market. Even so, the refreshed Aviator is clearly resonating with buyers.
Competition is strong from all sides, including the typical suspects like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and also recently-overhauled models like the Lexus GX and all-new TX (once the latter recovers from its stop-sale). Additionally, GM recently debuted the 2026 Cadillac Vistiq as a future Lincoln Aviator rival; even though it’s a battery-electric model, it’s poised to take over for the Cadillac XT6 at some point in the not-too-distant future.
About Lincoln Aviator
The Aviator was refreshed for the 2025 model year with an updated exterior and interior, while bringing new tech headlined by BlueCruise – Ford’s hands-free highway driving assist technology, available for the first time ever on the Aviator.
Other key changes include updates to the trim level structure, including the discontinuation of the Grand Touring (plug-in hybrid) option, though a new hybrid version may be on the way. As such, the 2025 Aviator is offered in just three trims – Premiere, Reserve, and Black Label, which adds a Moonbeam Theme. The updated model also ditches the Enhanced Security Package and rear door sunshades as part of Job 2 production.
Regarding powertrain options, all 2025 Lincoln Aviator units are equipped with just one engine – the twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 EcoBoost, which generates the same 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque as it did in 2020-2024 Aviators. It is mated to FoMoCo’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
