In recent months, a large array of commercial customers have purchased Ford Mustang Mach-E crossovers to add to their respective fleets, a list that includes various law enforcement agencies, utilities, and educational institutions, among others. That includes Clark County, Nevada, which recently purchased 57 Ford Mustang Mach-E models to replace existing vehicles within the county fleet, as well as the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD), which added three of the same vehicles to its fleet. Now, we have yet another customer to add to this ever-growing list.
That customer is Rutgers University, which plans to replace its existing ICE-powered fleet with 700 EVs in the coming years, starting with 24 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Subaru Solterra models that arrived back in October, the college has announced. The next 24 EVs are slated to arrive next spring, with this move representing one component of Rutgers’ commitment to reducing its emissions by 45 percent by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2040.
“These EV fleet vehicles represent a transformative move forward for Rutgers,” said Henry Velez, vice president of Institutional Planning and Operations (IP&O). “Not only do they enhance our operational efficiency, but they also directly align with our Climate Action Plan, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable practices.” “We are creating a culture of sustainability at Rutgers,” added Angela Oberg, chief climate officer and senior director of the Office of Climate Action at the university. “That means we embed sustainability into everything we do – including how we operate our fleet vehicles. It is one way to show that this is just how we do business at Rutgers now.”
IP&O will identify rounds of older fleet vehicles that are ready to be phased out each year, recouping their trade-in value and all available EV tax credits to significantly reduce the project’s price tag. The EV project will also add roughly 100 new charging stations throughout the university during the next 10 years, joining a dozen that already exist on campus.

Just wondering why Rutgers needs 700 cars?
So, a heavily government subsidized organization is going to purchase 700 (!) heavily government subsidized products. An incredible waste of money.

Rutgers University has 700 vehicles!
As a New Jersey taxpayer, I was not aware of this and it concerns me.
I’m all for Ford selling cars, but I sure as hell would like to know what these are needed for.
Oh yeah, I’ll bet the football coach and his staff enjoy them.
Look at all these angry people.
People should be angry at this level of government fraud. We have wasted billions and billions of dollars. The average taxpayer is being forced to pay for something they don’t want. Thankfully, this stupidity just got voted out. Change is coming.
