Performance parts manufacturer, Steeda, took a 2024 Ford Mustang GT and turned it into a naturally aspirated monster affectionately nicknamed “Silver Bullet 2.0.” Not short on speed, the pony car then went on to set the world record for being the fastest naturally aspirated 2024 model year GT with a 10.758 second run. Now that winter is upon us, Steeda took their straight-line star out in cool weather to test its performance, and it seems like cold temperatures suit the Silver Bullet just fine.
When they hit the track, the outside temperature is 46 degrees Fahrenheit. During its first run, the 2024 Ford Mustang GT pulls a 10.821 second quarter-mile, which is slightly disappointing. That’s likely due to tire pressure, which really didn’t change during their run, so they head back out to test it again with the goal of letting the tires spin a little more to build heat.
However, bef0re they can get to the run, the Silver Bullet presents with an issue: it won’t hold a charge and has to be pushed off the track. They get it charged up and head back out, this time giving it ample time in the burnout box. This time is 10.768 seconds, better than the first – but still nowhere near where Steeda hoped the 2024 Ford Mustang GT would perform.
The team pores over the Silver Bullet and decides to put the stock throttle bodies back on. Lo and behold, the Mustang GT is infinitely happier with its stock equipment on and pulls a 10.608, shocking the Steeda crew. On its next run, it gallops to the line in 10.65 seconds, and now that they finally have a result worth talking about, the Steeda crew decides it’s time to let the Silver Bullet chill.
“As you saw, we ended the day with a 10.65, but we ended up running a 10.60 at 129 mph with the 2024 Steeda Silver Bullet,” says Scott Boda, Director of Manufacturing & Drag Racing Program at Steeda. “It was probably the most rewarding day at the track. Not because it went to 10.60, but because it wasn’t easy.”
